Diary Entry: My plans for 2026

Somehow the year is nearly a quarter over already. I don’t get it. It’s been very busy so far, but I don’t feel like I have a lot to show yet. I’ve been drawing a lot of new letters and doing several projects for Mota Italic.

Aside from that, I’ve built some pretty amazing tools to track my work and life. I’ve made a dashboard that manages everything from home stuff to font work to my art practice. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s already really helping me stay on top of my to-do list, track ideas, and generally stay organized.

Figuring out what to do, when to do it, prioritizing tasks, being efficient, and using my time well has become increasingly difficult over the last several years. This new app of mine is proving that the tools and systems you use can make all the difference. So going forward, hopefully I’ll keep seeing more productivity and less indecision.

One other side effect of this new tool is that it clearly shows me all the art projects I have going on and what phase they’re in. I’m very aware that I have many in-progress sculptures around the studio right now (I see them all around me), but having them front and center in my task dashboard makes it painfully obvious I need to finish some things. While I don’t think every project one starts needs to be completed, many of these are things I still like and want to see finished.

So my big focus for the rest of 2026 is finishing some old projects. Right now I have 8 sculptures, plus another 26 in a different series, along with many other misc projects, that I’ve flagged as still quite exciting and worth finishing. I’m excited to see how they’ll transform and turn out — they will certainly be different from what they would have been had I finished them years ago. (The oldest was started six years ago; many others, four to five years back.)

I’ll keep you posted 🙂
